Reasons for using protections:

protection of load surfaces against damaging,
protection of webbings against sharp cutting edges,
enhancement of the contact surface at sharp edges,
protection of webbings against abrasion at raw surfaces (e.g. untreated wood, concrete components, rolled steel goods) or during handling of sharp-edged loads,
to achieve an equal force in the whole lashing mean by lashing loads down.

According to the definition of the Employer's Liability Insurance Association we are talking of an sharp edge if the radius r of the loads edge is smaller or equal than the thickness d of the lifting or round sling.

Polyurethane:
